Nilgaon civic polls: 64% turnout, women outvote men in 12 of 30 wards
Voting for the Nilgaon municipal council ended peacefully. Counting is on Monday, and officials credit new ramps and shorter queues for higher turnout among older voters.
Voting for the 30-ward Nilgaon municipal council ended peacefully on Saturday evening with a provisional turnout of 64 per cent, five points higher than at the last council election, the returning officer said.
Women voters outnumbered men in 12 wards, most of them in the older parts of town around the weekly market. Officials said this was the first time women had outvoted men in more than a handful of wards.
